Seri Menanti Palace


  • . For visitors looking to appreciate a traditional wooden palace, the only really accessible – and some say the most beautiful – example left is the old Istana Seri Menanti, or Seri Menanti Palace, located in the royal town of Seri Menanti in Negeri Sembilan state, just two hours away from Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

  • The current building was constructed between 1902 and 1908 for Tuanku Muhammad Shah, the 7th State Ruler or Yang Di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan. The Istana served as the official residence of the royal family until 1931, before it was converted to a Royal Museum in 1992.


  • The palace was designed entirely by two local Malay master carpenters and was constructed the traditional way, without using a single metal nail, and the entire four-storey building is literally held together only by mortise

  • The first level of the palace was used for official functions, while the second level was used for private, family affairs  rally held together only by mortise-

HISTORY

Negeri Sembilan was the only states that practice Adat Perpatih and using the Yang DiPertuan Negeri instead of Sultan. In century 14, people from Sumatera migrate from Minangkabau to Negeri Sembilan. A mix marriage happen between Minangkabau people and pnduduk asli, their generation are name as Biduanda. Until today, only citizen from Biduanda blood will be choose as the leader.


Adat Perpatih.
·         Dato Pepatih Nan Sebatang was the people that responsible in existence of Adat Perpatih.
·         Women are the priority in this adat by heritage all the 'harta pusaka' such as land and house.
·         The purpose of this adat is to protect women right also to keep the harte.

INTRODUCTION

Negeri Sembilan is one of the 13 states that constitute Malaysia. It is located on the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia, just south of Kuala Lumpur and is bordered in the north by Selangor, in the east by Pahang and in the south by Malacca and Johor.
The history behind the name of Negeri Sembilan is the nine districts or known as luak and the origin of its people is from Minangkabau.
The nine districts:

4.    Rembau
5.    Sungai Ujong
6.    Tampin
7.    Jempol
8. Ulu Muar
